The Real Secret Behind Long-Term Success

By most people’s standards, I’ve done pretty well in the world of fitness and performance.

We’ve been fortunate enough to coach and train All-Conference, All-State, All-American, and Pro players—even an Olympian.

I’m not sharing that to brag.
I’m sharing it to make a point:

Persistence beats talent—every single time.

The Power of Persistence

I say this to our coaches, parents, and athletes all the time:
You have to embrace the struggle.

Anyone can work hard for a few weeks.
But what happens when progress slows down?
What about when “most” people are taking a break?

That’s where the real difference is made.

One of the biggest reasons I’ve found success in both basketball and performance training is simple:

I keep going.

Even when it’s not exciting.
Even when it’s frustrating.
Even when it’s just plain hard.

I call it embracing the suck.
It’s not about chasing motivation—it’s about showing up when it would be easier not to.

P.U.S.H. — Persistence Until Something Happens

That’s what it takes.

In a world that moves fast and rewards quick results, the real wins go to the ones who can stay in the game—especially when it gets tough.

  • Fall down? Get back up.

  • Tired? Show up anyway.

  • Doubt creeping in? Keep going.

Because the truth is simple:

The only way to lose is to quit.

Final Thought

Talent might open the door.
But persistence—the willingness to do the work long after the excitement fades—is what keeps you in the room.

Keep showing up.
Keep pushing forward.

Because success isn’t about what you do when it’s easy—
It’s about what you do when it’s not.
