Pay Attention to How You Get Out of the Car

September 20, 2026•2 min read

"Some of the best movement assessments happen during everyday life. Getting out of a car is one of them."

Here's something you can pay attention to today.

The next time you get out of your car, notice what you do.

Do you turn, plant your foot, and stand up smoothly?

Do you push heavily through the door or seat?

Do you need an extra second once you're standing to find your balance?

Most people never think about it.

It's such a routine part of the day that it happens on autopilot.

But there's actually a lot going on in those few seconds.

You're rotating.

Shifting your weight onto your feet.

Producing enough force to stand.

Then stabilizing yourself once you're upright.

All of that happens before you've even taken your first step away from the vehicle.

Everyday Transitions Matter

I've always liked examples like this because they make movement feel practical.

We're not training stability so you can become really good at a balance exercise.

We're training it so your body can handle transitions.

And life is full of transitions.

Sitting to standing.

Two legs to one.

Stepping forward to stepping sideways.

Stable ground to uneven ground.

These moments require your body to adapt quickly.

Your hips, ankles, and core all have to communicate and work together to keep you moving efficiently.

When they do, you hardly notice.

When they don't, everyday tasks start feeling more difficult than they should.

The Small Signs Are Worth Noticing

One of the first signs that stability may need attention isn't usually pain.

It's compensation.

You start grabbing onto things more often.

You move a little slower.

You avoid certain positions.

You become more cautious during movements that once felt automatic.

Those changes can be subtle.

In fact, many people don't notice them until they've become habits.

That's why paying attention to simple movements can be so valuable.

They often reveal changes long before bigger problems appear.

Train for Life, Not Just Exercise

Maintaining stability doesn't require complicated training.

In many cases, it comes from continuing to challenge the movements your body was designed to perform.

Keep strengthening your legs.

Keep spending time in single-leg positions.

Keep rotating, reaching, stepping, and getting up and down from the floor.

These aren't just exercises.

They're skills that support everyday movement.

Every repetition helps maintain the strength, coordination, and balance needed for daily life.

Stay Ahead of the Need

The best time to work on stability isn't after everyday tasks become difficult.

It's before they do.

Building and maintaining these qualities now helps keep routine activities feeling routine.

Getting out of a car.

Walking across a parking lot.

Navigating stairs.

Carrying groceries.

Moving confidently through your day.

Those are the things we're really training for.

I'd much rather help someone maintain those abilities today than try to rebuild them later.

Because movement is easiest to keep when you never stop practicing it.
