The other day I had a great conversation with a fellow coach—former pro, academy owner, someone who’s seen talent at every level.
We both agreed on one thing:
Most athletes say they want it.
Few are actually doing what it takes.
Speed. Quickness. Agility.
They’re not just gifts.
They’re built.
Let’s clear this up:
✅ Being fast is earned, not given
✅ Quickness is trained, not wished for
✅ Agility is developed, not hoped into existence
Yes, genetics matter.
But development matters more.
The fastest athletes aren’t just born different—they train differently.
There are thousands of athletes with:
• Big goals
• Strong work ethic
• Clean highlight reels
But the difference-maker?
The unsexy work.
• Extra reps
• Boring drills done perfectly
• Footwork when no one’s watching
• Strength sessions done with focus
• Recovery handled like a professional
The 1% doesn’t rely on motivation.
They rely on habits.
Ask yourself:
Are your daily actions aligned with your goals?
If you want to:
• Blow by defenders
• Change direction faster
• React quicker under pressure
Then your habits—today—have to reflect that.
Not next week.
Not next season.
Today.
Effort alone doesn’t guarantee success.
But smart, consistent, intentional work?
That’s how you separate.
Move with purpose.
Train with intent.
And don’t stop until your quickness speaks for itself.
